Focusly

Intro

Focusly is a mobile application concept designed to counter the physical toll of prolonged screen exposure, specifically addressing eye strain, facial muscle tension, and poor ergonomics. While conventional digital well-being tools track screen time in passive metrics, Focusly acts as an active physical intervention by monitoring posture and real-time screen distance through non-invasive facial recognition. Grounded in market research across desk-bound professionals, students, and health-conscious parents, the design targets the core reasons users abandon health apps, namely cognitive friction and privacy concerns. To build immediate trust, the product incorporates an explicit privacy-first onboarding flow that guarantees fully offline data handling and gives users complete control over camera capture intervals. The technical feasibility explores proven computer vision frameworks such as OpenFace, Affectiva, and Microsoft Azure Face API, translating complex facial and micro-expression detection into a lightweight mobile interaction. The resulting interface guides users through real-time habit diagnostics benchmarked against ergonomic standards, particularly the optimal 40 to 50 cm screen distance. Progress is visualized through clean weekly trend reports and subtle gamification, reinforcing lasting physical adjustments rather than arbitrary time limits. Paired with actionable daily micro-habits, Focusly delivers a structured, accessible digital experience that prioritizes physical wellness without disrupting everyday workflow.
